The five piece mucky funksters that debuted in 2003 with 'Necessary Measures' return with another journey into sound combining a psychotic devotion to clashing genres with a love of the good groove. Available August 23rd http://www.pestmusic.com Treva Whateva 'Music's Made of Memories' It's dusty up north. Treva's been around for a while working with Tru Thoughts and Grand Central, but this is his first proper album. He's also a kindred spirit of Mr. Scruff, having toured and co-hosted the Hot Pot Radio Show with Scruff, as well as sharing his style both musically and attitude-wise. You know what that means - bouncing bass, cheeky grooves, twisted fun. Available Sept. 6th http://www.ninjatune.net/ninja/artist.php?id=104 One Self 'Children of Possibility' New collaboration between DJ Vadim and vocalists Yarah Bravo and BluRum 13. Blu Rum's gruff, musical growl is the ideal foil for Yarah's sweet, octave-hopping, spoken word style, and both mesh perfectly with Vadim's unique production. Featuring singles Be Your Own and Bluebird. Available Sept. 20th. http://www.one-self.net P-Love 'All Up In Your Mind' free mp3 Having played with just about everyone on Ninja Tune, you've probably already heard P-Love. You might have mistaken him for Kid Koala after one of their shows together. Or you wondered who was the short guy playing just about every instrument on the Sixtoo tour. That was P-Love, also referred to as the 'Ninja Tune fifth Beatle'. Well, he's finally got around to recording a full length called 'All Up In Your Mind' and will be available September 20th on Bully Records (distributed by Ninja Tune, hence why we're plugging this in our newsletter). You can download a free MP3 from the album. 'Blue And Brown' (featuring Bonobo on bass) right here: http://www.bullyrecords.com/freeshit/P-Love-BlueAndBrown.mp3 Looking ahead... DJ Kentaro 'on the Wheels of Solid Steel' CD DVD available October 4th. Skalpel 'Konfusion' CD/2LP available October 18th. Blockhead 'Downtown Science' When we turn our sights to New New York we see that the hip hop instrumentalist Blockhead is ready to drop his second full length, "Downtown Science" (NJT113/NJTCD113). You know him from his work on cuts for hip hop emissaries Aesop Rock, Cage, Slug, Murs, etc., etc.; but did you also know he was deep into the visual aspects of his sound. Well you are about to find out as his new CD comes with a bonus DVD that includes full video pieces for his first album, "Music By Cavelight" (NJT88/NJTCD88); these were hand picked from many entries to a contest we ran on the website last year. Step up to see the sound on October 18th. And Further Ahead... It was 1986 when Coldcut made the amazing "7 Minutes of Madness" remix for Eric B. & Rakim's "Paid In Full"; thusly securing a foothold in the pop music lexicon. Since then these two men have released countless cut-up classics ("Say Kids, What Time Is It?", "Beats & Pieces") and pop hits ("Doctorin' the House", "People Hold On"), a hand full of records (the last one being the successful "Let Us Play" in 1997), created audio/visual computer programs (VJAMM) and started up an independent record label (you might have heard of it?). Well in February of 2006 Coldcut will continue their legacy by releasing a new full length album on Ninja Tune called "Sound Mirrors". Once again calling on like-minded artists to help them out with this endeavor, the record boast collaborations with Roots Manuva, Andrew Broder (a.k.a. Fog), Saul Williams, Robert Owens, and Jon Spencer (whose track is the lead off single "Everything Is Under Control"). Prepare to be unprepared. - - - News provided by Ninja Tune (http://www.ninjatune.net)
