This one is for all you smokers. It's for all you mushroomers too. Seriously. It is. Dymons or Daniel Symons, is for all purposes, indistinguishable from Elestial, the label on which his music is released. I'm talking about Druids Brew here, and this is the first solo album effort from Dymons and the first release on Elestial. If you've been into the dub stylings of Interchill lately, you should pay attention here.

These seven songs are a mixed bag actually. Though dub rules the roost, so to speak, elements of aviary field recordings, world music, and even psychedelic house come into play. In fact, the bird chirps have a constant presence, popping up for moments or all throughout a song. It's a disarming element while you're listening. It's hard to know what to expect with each track. A good example of the unexpected is "El Jaguar", which spends half it's time steeped in a cloud of slow rolling dub, but the final half speeding on psy-house beats and synths.
Dymons is at a creative crossroads, if you ask me. There are so many elements involved throughout the various songs, not even barring the odd new age instrumentation, you simply have to accept one of two outcomes; Dymons makes resolutely eclectic dub, or he is experimenting with each of his loves on this debut and will focus tighter on his second album. You choose. I can't.
