Voodoo Juju '09
Buy at: GEMM

Voodoo Juju '09 Ah, The Voodoo Trombone Quartet. They are like a pitcher of fresh fruit juice. You always know it's got that tangy-sweet zing that will be hitting your taste buds with its deliciously confusing flavor, that more often than not makes you want to drink more and more. That's kind of how the Voodoo Trombone's sound hits your ears. You can be sure it's never bland, boring, or lifeless. If anything is ever said about them, it cannot be that they don't have zing.
Track Listing:
  1. Voodoo Juju
  2. Voodoo Juju (UR Penetrators Remix)
  3. Voodoo Juju (Lemon Refresher Mix)

On the single for "Voodoo Juju", which was actually released on a split 7" with Lemon back in 2005, you'll hear the Quartet's strong horns and cheeky beats mixed up into a heady club track and an even cheekier number that makes it impossible for your mind to stave off visions of Gidget-era, tiki blazing, beach party scenes, that involve large amounts of long board action super-imposed on a clearly asynchronous background of gigantic waves. You know what I'm talking about. A lot of scenes with the guy who's always looking cool, smoking a pipe, whilst calmly navigating the channels of a 10-foot wave on a 15-foot long board. Anyway, that's how it sounds.

In terms of differences from the original, it's the UR Penetrators who mix things up into clubland by layering a strong, bass-snare-combo, 4/4 house rhythm over a fresh synth and electronic slap bass. The original vocals and horns are in place, for the most part, so this mix is far from a disconnected, impersonal house track. It's better to call it a dance track.

If you know the 2005 release of Voodoo Juju, you're already familiar with Lemon's mix. Lemon stay much closer to the sound of the original, but do bring the percussive sounds up to a stronger presence. Of course the original version is here too.

One thing is certain about The Voodoo Trombone Quartet; they have fun making music, and they do it very well. Maybe that's why this music is included in the soundtrack of the Sony Playstation game LittleBIGPlanet!
