Bongo Dub/Carlito's Cumbia
Buy at: GEMM

Bongo Dub/Carlito's Cumbia Dub Traffik Control stole into my ears a bit back with a mix they put together to promote their first EP release, which came in the form of BSTRD BOOTS 04. A tasty dish of musical buds I must say. While heavy, heavy dub ruled the Dub Traffik Control then, it's cumbia that's running things on their new BSTRD BOOTS single, but you know dub isn't far away. But, how far? Good question.
Track Listing:
  1. Bongo Dub
  2. Carlito's Cumbia

If you're familiar with Dub Traffik Control you know they like a heavy, bass sound with complex instrumentation and sampling that is punctuated by solid bass kicks and layers on layers of dubwise production. "Bongo Dub" gives you all that and more. This one is sure to set fire to all but the most deeply disconnected of dance floors. A combination of an amazing vocal bite from the widely covered Manu Chao classic, "King of the Bongo", that states, "Every monkey wants to be in my place instead of me, I'm the king of bongo baby, I'm the king of bongo", and some nice female vocal work (also from the original) saying "king of the bongo", give this track so much depth, along with the heavy beats and instrumentation, it's just sick. Really well done.

The second track is "Carlito's Cumbia", and it jacks into the current dancefloor accelerant that is electro cumbia. There is such a trademark style to cumbia that once you've heard it and recognized what it is, you can never mistake it. If you can keep yourself from moving to its shuffling rhythm, you should take up poker. For the rest of us, Dub Traffik Control have given us one more reason to thank Colombia and Argentina for everything the people of those countries have done to further the worlds exposure to cumbia. The source on this one is a classic cumbia by Afrosound called "La Danza De Los Mirlos".

As you can expect from the BSTRD BOOT series, this is sure to set some fires.
