Dig Deep
Buy at: GEMM

Dig Deep You know times are changing when an American President gets sampled on a dance track. Welcome to the electro-funk dominion of the Motet! For their sixth album, this Colorado based outfit have assembled an electro-jam record – full of skinky beats, funk grooves and samples designed to drag people onto the dance floor. This really does dig deep in every sense of the word.
Track Listing:
  1. Kalakuta Show
  2. Roforofo Fight
  3. Nemesis
  4. Dig Deep
  5. Mighty
  6. Push
  7. Expensive Shit
  8. The Luxury of Doubt
  9. New Old
  10. Guru
  11. Tonight it Belongs to You

The Motet have produced a surprisingly complex record that will appeal not only to jam band enthusiasts, but both electronica and downtempo jazz fans alike. Producer and drummer Dave Watts has assembled a great cast, including saxophonist Dominc Lali and keyboardist Joey Porter.

There are no three minute pop songs, just elongated grooves.
Jans Ingber adds some vocal sparkle on "Push", which is a definite highlight. The combination of some funky horns, phat drums and a soul diva just cannot be beaten.

And yes, that really is Barack Obama on the final track "Tonight It Belongs To You". You might not agree with his healthcare reforms, but as he proves on that track – this President was born for the dance floor. Change really has come to America.
