RE:lax (re:lax | re:wind | re:think) A veteran of what he calls ambient, global fusion, and chillout music, Bob Holroyd is releasing a series of remixes of his earlier work and some of other artists, with a few originals. "re:lax | re:wind | re:think", the last in a series of three stylized "best of" albums that revisit music from his first four albums, largely uses songs from his 2007 release "Hollow Man".
Track Listing:
  1. Ek Jaan (Bob Holroyd Deep Blue Remix)
  2. Hollow Man (remix)
  3. Butterfly (TJ Rehmi Remix)
  4. Light Water (A dimmSummer Remix)
  5. The Sheer Weight of Memory (Ambient Mix)
  6. The Release (Coded Fantasy Remix)
  7. All Colours pt. 2 (remix)
  8. Overland (Lemonade Remix)
  9. A New Space
  10. Plains Song

Holroyd's music has a sparseness and mystery. The remixes in some cases enhance this, smoothing out the sound and making it more otherworldly, In other cases, they add beats and other instruments that are not needed, and do not contribute to the easygoing flow of the work. None of the remixes are bad, but in some cases they do not match the understated impact of the originals.

There are also two songs that are not reworks, "A New Space" and "Plains Song", both incorporating World music. "Plains Song" is a cut that uses a native chant for a base, with subtle additions that bring out its wonder.

Holroyd has a unique sound, one that combines many styles and moods. He can make an entrancing sound from using effects on one note of a piano, or multilayer a number of tracks for dramatic listening. You can't go wrong with his work, remixed or not.
