Soul Protection "Soul Protection" is the second release from Vienna-based music collective Wet Cookies. Their sound is a classic blend of soul, jazz and funk – but with a serious dub edge, which means their beats are a little bit spicier than your average outfit.
Track Listing:
  1. I Got Reasons
  2. 1, 4, 3
  3. When I Fall in Love
  4. Is it Really Possible
  5. Something's Changing
  6. Will You Be Good
  7. Doin' You Right
  8. Unwind
  9. Inspired
  10. Word Up
  11. Something's Changing Dub
  12. Unwind Dub
  13. Flunk "Personal Stereo (Wet Cookies rmx)"
Founders Axel Hirn and Björn Klein have assembled a stella crew for this release, including internationally respected jazz players like vocalist Hubert Tubbs and Flipp Phillip on the vibes.

The actual catalyst for this record is massive, so if you want to find out more, go check the band’s website. One thing is for sure, the calibre of all the people involved in this release is first rate.

Their funkified version of the Nat King Cole song "When I Fall In Love" is a real highlight and a true dance floor killer, but the collective have such good musical chops that they can switch to taut jazz at the drop of a hat – as they do on "Is It Really Possible".

The Wet Cookies version of Cameo’s "Word Up" has all the attitude and groove of the original and is a worthy cover.
The dub tracks, which appear towards the end of the album are excellent. Like all the best chill out music, they have a great beat, some smooth jazz vibes and are perfect for the that stage in the night when you want to relax or take the tempo down a notch or two.

There are plenty of soul jazz outfits out there right now, but very few fuse dub into the mix. Wet Cookies are serious about their grooves, and if you are too, then you will dig their recipe. It's smoother than silk and no self respecting jazz funk fan should be without it.
