Karen P. ...Broadcasting If you have a good bottle of scotch (aka whisky/whiskey) on hand, this album will go perfectly with it. There is something in the way these lazy melodies blend with the mellow haze that scotch brings on that is just wonderful. I swear Viva Voce's "Wrecking Ball" is a cover song, done over here by Tunng, but you'll have to excuse my scotch haze for not being able to prove my suspicion. I guess that's kind of how this edition of ...Broadcasting, goes though; familiar but so undefinable.

Karen P. takes you on an exploration of strangely dreamlike acoustic worlds of song, never wrenching unexpectedly from one pole to another, but traversing slowly, as if on foot, across a known but alien landscape. You must forgive me as I take another sip and sink further into this altered reality.

There are skittering sounds all around, languid melodies, and all those things that connect you to a quasi-bluesy state of mind. When heard through the filter of a puritanically sober mind, this compilation can't possibly sound half as good as it does right now. Don't read me wrong though, this isn't music for a drunken mind, just one with a light buzz. I reserve my indulgence in whisky for the weekend, but it's exactly then, when you have none of your normal daily cares to invade your mind, that it can be open to such an otherworldly trip as this.

In the right frame of mind, every distorted, bluesy, rhythmic, quiet melody of Karen P's ...Broadcasting is like a perfectly executed symphony, and right now, my mind is about to blow with the depth of its sounds.
