Vibrations EP
Buy at: iTunes  GEMM

Vibrations EP It's not often that you get to hear lounge music that you can really dance to, but the rather brilliantly titled Voodoo Trombone Quartet don't do anything by halves. The band are part of the Brighton-based Freshly Squeezed label, and maybe I should start this review by declaring an interest - that I'm from Brighton too - and anyone from my home city is all right by me. And if anyone can produce music that is quintessentially Brighton, then the Voodoo Trombone Quartet can!
Track Listing:
  1. Vibrations
  2. Do It Your Own Way
  3. Millionaire's Holiday

Their new Vibrations EP takes three instrumental tracks from their live shows and presents studio versions in all their Technicolor glory. The Quartet, who are incidentally way bigger than a four piece, despite their title, have a unique blend of ska, funk and lounge, which is totally unique. If that sounds a little obscure then don’t worry – this is genuinely good stuff, as anyone who heard their previous EP will testify.

The best of the three tracks is "Millionaire's Holiday" which is a veritable smorgasbord of musical loveliness. You name it and it's been thrown in the mix. This song has got more influences than Wikipedia, but it's a lot more fun. The club and dance beats have been ramped up with this EP, which reflects the live bands growing confidence and power. They're on a roll and they know it. The title track "Vibrations" is just as exotic and while the ska influence has been reigned back a bit, it's still very groovy music, which will be best enjoyed with a few cigars, cocktails and a very crowded dance floor.
