Eva Bernhard is Berlin and Sonar Kollektiv's designated DJ/producer "bad girl". While glossed out in a black cocktail dress you might expect Eva to explore a lounged out sound, but in truth, her heart belongs to dub and minimal house, as you'll hear throughout Moving Without Travelling, which once again sees Sonar Kollektiv hook up with Best Seven. With her approach to dub, Eva Be slides in through a door opened by Berlin's vibrant minimal scene, so don't expect a muddy, squelched out, hard dub experience. Letting a host of singers, musicians and MCs, including Joe Dukie of Fat Freddy's Drop, lay down the sounds that match her vision, and that of collaborator Boris Meinhold (guitarist for Micatone), this is dub as heard through a resolutely cosmopolitan ear.

Trippin' Dub
There have been a number of singles released from this album and among the best of these songs is "No Memory Of Time" which features the unmistakable voice and silky style of Joe Dukie. Pegah Ferydoni, an actress and also singer for Shanghai Electric sings on "Into My Blues" and "She Walks Alone". The first is a slow drifting dub piece, while the second has an acoustic guitar lead and a more melancholy, pop attitude. This one will sit very well with you if Cirkus' Laylower is in your personal top 10. RQM MCs the slinking, hip hop jazz of "Speakeasy". There is also a dubbed out version of Eva's minimal 2005 track "Bad Girl". Eva Be's minimal house past doesn't entirely disappear here, but as you might expect, it's crossed genres with dub. "Unite Tonite" is a good example. The other guest vocalists not yet mentioned are Sugar B
With this album, Eva Be shows all the potential needed to become the rising Ellen Allien of electronic dub. Pick up Moving without Travelling, or an earlier single like "Allée Virée" which came out on Best Seven in 2005 and you'll understand. This one has gone for more than the usual number of spins here at Properly Chilled HQ.
