This is more of an indie than an electronica release that is perhaps best described as global pop. It's exactly the kind of sound you might expect from a Peruvian born singer (Silvana Kane), a producer and bassist raised in Barbados (Toby Peter), and a Canadian guitarist and producer (Adam Popowitz).

The eleven tracks on Asunción, which is a bit over forty minutes, are subdued. They are not at all melancholy, though. Consistent rhythms propel the melodies. And these are rhythms, not beats. They may be sampled, but there is the organic feel of Latin and other percussion that never becomes repetitive.
The production is centered around Kane's voice. She has a breezy, light Brazilian touch but also takes on a girlish reflective feel on the two songs she sings in English.
Acoustic and a bit of electric guitar are the primary backup with added bass and percussion. There are few electric effects.
This is a well balanced album, proving that taste and subtlety are better production tools than a multitude of effects. Works like this might not be the future of indie/World fusion, but they should be.
