Champion Mushroom It's been stated that The Magic Fly, also known as Rob Watson is on a "one-man mission for magical noises and vocals". In order to find these sounds, Rob has combined his love of synthesizers with an equal passion for the sounds of Jamaican Reggae and dub. The result of the moment is something he calls his "Champion Mushroom" single and in terms of deep, slumbery vibes mixed with straight out Reggae-induced funk, he doesn't go wrong.
Track Listing:
  1. Champion Mushroom
  2. Thinking Toy
  3. Play That Funky Reggae
  4. Play That Funky Reggae (JStar remix)

Kicking off with the heaviest funk infected song of the four, which is also the title track, you know you're not wasting your time or money here. For the second cut things dive deep into a bassed-out dubby rhythm called "Thinking Toy".

The moods head back to the surface for "Play That Funky Reggae" which is an amazing combination of styles, the strongest of which is retro-synth inspired (think Kraftwerk) and equally informed by the rhythms of Reggae alongside classic 80s hip hop beats and keys. It's all so smoothly blended though it won't be hard to argue with what I'm hearing.

For the grand finale there's no getting yourself ready. It's a remix of "Play That Funky Reggae" by JStar, who is certainly no stranger to Dub circles. This mix slows the mood down and extracts all the key elements of the original song while piling on scooop after scoop of hi and lo-fi goodness. The louder played the better!

It's a fact: I love mushrooms.
