Belle et Fou "Belle et Fou", which translates to "Beautiful and Insane" is a collection of songs with a strong soul/jazz sound compiled and produced by Germany's Jazzanova. This soundtrack was specifically commissioned by the creators of the Berlin-based play and each song was either chosen (from Sonar Kollektiv's back catalog) or freshly composed by Jazzanova to capture a specific mood.
Track Listing:
  1. Rendezvous (feat. Capitol A)
  2. This Is The Place! (Overture)
  3. Clara Hill "Maybe Now"
  4. Theme From Belle et Fou - The Opening
  5. Glow & Glare
  6. Behold These Days (Berlin '74)
  7. Micatone "D-D-D-Dance"
  8. Clara Hill "Morning Star (feat. Thief)"
  9. Extended Spirit "Caprice"
  10. That Night (Live at The SK Office)(feat. Clara Hill)
  11. Keep On Making Me High (feat. Georg Levin)
  12. Am I Losing You?
  13. Wahoo "Sun In My Candlelight"
  14. Forss "Flickermood"
  15. Sirens
  16. Outlines "Just A Lil' Lovin' (DJ edit)"
  17. Theme From Belle et Fou - Bows
  18. Ice
  19. The Sirens' Call (feat. Thief)

Easily the most interesting aspect of this soundtrack are the fact that Jazzanova put the whole thing together, even delaying the release of their own album to work on it. In a way, this may be a sweet preview to the groups next album which is slated for release some time in 2008. Besides a good number of new songs by Jazzanova you'll also find work from Clara Hill, Micatone, Extended Spirit, Thief, Wahoo aka Georg Levin, Forss, and Outlines.

Despite having work from numerous artists in its tracklist, even songs from years back, Belle et Fou is extremely cohesive. Its soul/jazz styling is tempered with moments of electronic folk, soul and even some aspects of classical music. Opening the collection is a song called "Rendezvous" featuring the voice of Capitol A that sounds all the world like a Barry White number, and that's exactly what the producers of Belle et Fou asked for.

There are times when the soundtrack's 70s soul attitude comes on pretty heavy, but whether or not that's a bad thing is a matter of personal taste. If you know anything about Jazzanova or the sounds of the Sonar Kollektiv label, you know you'll be hearing some incredible songs that will challenge your ears to take a taste of the future...even though its strongly influenced by 60s and 70s soul. On the emotional front, you can expect a little bit of everything. In the end I find myself thoroughly impressed with the quality of music and selections on Belle et Fou. Once again Jazzanova do more than just not disappoint, they make you realize how wonderful and surprising music can be, even when it doesn't exactly fit your normal tastes.

Belle et Fou opened in 2006 as the creative brainchild of four star chef and events caterer Hans Peter Wodarz and producer/director Arhtur Castro.
