Wet Cookies debut album "Earthling" is a rare thing. The group was founded by Axel Hirn of Noiseshaper and Björn Klein, who are joined by a host of internationally respected jazz players. Wet Cookies present a flavor of modern jazz that doesn't come around very often. Upon its foundation sound are lain elements of electronic music, dub, free-funk and ambient, and while such combinations have been done before, the sound Wet Cookies produce is really something fresh...reverent, often improvised sounding jazz playing with an ear for true dub and electronic music delivery.

From the incredible opening track entitled "One More Step" with its beautifully dub-infected groove and ambient jazz horns, to the very dubbed out mixes that close the whole thing out, you'll hear a little something different in each track.
Though songs like "Sundazed" and "Chicken Licken'" struck me with an all-to-smooth, contemporary jazz feel, most of the songs here work in an improvisational and stylistically experimental space that combines a range of jazz instrumentation with a number of electronic, dub and free-funk music accompaniments. The effect is really well grounded in the unconventional. And did I mention its a completely instrumental album?
For all jazz heads with a taste for dub and subtly played electronics, this album is a must-have.
