Compost Black Label Series Vol. 2
Buy at: iTunes  eMusic  GEMM

Compost Black Label Series Vol. 2 When Compost formed the "Black Label Series" back in 2005, its goal was to take Compost back to the dancefloor. The Black Label formula, as stated by the label themselves is simply "less jazz and soul - more disco and tech house", and that's exactly what's been packaged up here in a compilation called "Compost Black Label Series Vol. 2". But that isn't the whole story, because after all, Properly Chilled isn't really about house music. A number of these cuts drop it with an ever-so-right smoothness.
Track Listing:
  1. Patrick Pulsinger "The Clap! (feat. Snax)"
  2. Shahrokh Sound of K. "Chicago"
  3. Studio R "A&R (Llorca remix)(feat. Capitol A)"
  4. Move D "Your Rolling Hills"
  5. TJ Kong & Nuno Dos Santos "Circus Bells (Technucada mix)"
  6. DJ Enne "Lazise (main mix)"
  7. Phreek Plus One "Laser Rock"
  8. Zwicker "I Get My Kicks At Nighttime (Lexx dub)"
  9. Zwicker "Kumquat"
  10. Patrick Pulsinger "Try To Do! (feat. G-Rizo)"
  11. Wagon Cookin' "Start To Play"
  12. TJ Kong & Nuno Dos Santos "The Deep End"

If house in a tech house, Detroit influenced style is your thing you're undoubtedly going to find a crazy number of new favorites here, from Patrick Pulsinger, Shahrokh SoundofK, Wagon Cookin', and TJ Kong & Nuno Dos Santos.

Capitol A...so many producers have included his rap in their sound, even just over this past year, there's no other way to put it: Capitol A gets around. This time he collabs with Studio R for an uptempo but really nice house cut called "A&R (Llorca remix)".

Move D. drop a little bit of a disco and mild funk infected, deeper house sound with "Your Rolling Hills", an instrumental track that would fit in nicely as a heavier mood amid a Norwegian house set.

It's great to see DJ Enne among the artists here. His recent work as part of Ed Royal & Enne was just an amazing platter of funky breaks. Here with this solo number called "Lazise (main mix)", the sound is a laid back house borrowing in a subtle way from the techno and industrial sound of the late 80s and early 90s. The kind of sound you related to Germany's Techno Club. It's updated here and really has nice depth in its layers of sound.

Phreek Plus One drops a really great song called "Laser Rock" that rolls along on a similarly old school techno house beat and really pulls it through with some deep synth work. It isn't a song that's going to slap you in the face like a pop chorus or a catchy hook. It slaps you alright, but it's like you feel and realize it all in slow motion with each new unfolding layer and sound combination.

There are two tracks from Zwicker with the first meeting my downtempo preference best, the second meeting my tech house preference very nicely. The first song is called "I Get My Kicks At Nighttime (Lexx dub)" and it's got a nice low key funk bass line and similarly played synth keys given a bit of dub styling. The second Zwicker track is called "Kumquat" and though it packs a bit more of a tech housey vibe, Zwicker still throws its groove down in smooth, low-key fashion.

If you've got an appreciation for house vibes, but still like to keep your moods on the laid back, minimal side, Black Label Series Vol. 2 has some candy for you.
