Night Games "Night Games" is the debut full-length from Stockholm, Sweden based artist Markus Enochson. Up until now his released work consisted of a long string of 12" releases, remixes, and compilation appearances all ranging labels from Svek, Jellybean, Wave Music, Fabric, Compost, Vinyl Junkies, Jazzanova Compost Records, MAW and last (among many others not named) but by no means least, Sonar Kollektiv. His sound blends innate Swedish cleanliness with deep house beats and soulful moods.

  15. Dub The Noize (feat. Rachel Wilkie)

Throughout these tracks he works with 7 different vocalists. Among the most soulful tracks is "Day And Night" featuring James Ingram, who's resume includes work with Ray Charles, Quincy Jones, and writing credits for Michael Jackson's "P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing)" from his now classic Thriller album.

Kicking off with some bongo-like beats in a pattern reminiscent of Rabbit In The Moon, leading some spoken word sweetness from Rachel Wilkie, the sound moves on to a broken, upbeat soul piece vocalised by Masayah. There's no way to ignore the fact that this album delivers a number of jumping house tracks, but mixed among them (and primarily in the last half of the album) are some really nice house, soul and R&B pop fringed mid-tempo tracks.

"Tonight I See" is a nicely dusty bit of shuffling house vibe. "You Got It" featuring Cornelia, introduces a femme pop-hop sound that none of the previous tracks share, though it comes back a few tracks later when Cornelia sings on "Take Me Away". It's way too heavy on pop vibe for my liking.

Markus Enochson covers a wide area with these songs and in keeping with his houseful roots, Night Games is certainly best enjoyed by house heads for its rather persistent and high-end (though not crazy) tempos. It has some nice mid-tempo moments for those inclined to a soulfully influenced sound (mostly manifest in the vocal style).
CD/LP released on Feb 14, 2007, Cat. No.: SK112
