When it was originally released in October of 2005, Nickodemus' "Endangered Species" made waves. Those ripples kept going until ESL Music picked it up for a re-release just a year later. Talk about going from strength to strength. The sound of this album combines heavy afrobeat instrumentation, along with Middle Eastern, Brazilian and various other Latin melodies and rhythms worked into some true breakbeat and downtempo gems.

Nickodemus draws from every corner of his inspirations and song after song, comes up with some incredible tunes. As is the custom for ESL re-releases you'll find some new tracks, including "Mi Swing es Tropical" which is a collaboration between Nickodemus, and Quantic featuring Tempo. The sound is heavily influenced by Alomar's Puerto Rican style and funky in a superbly laid-back way. Another new track is "Bailamos en el Junque" featuring Malena Perez. This one is a mid-tempo burner that carries a serious Latin floor groove and a really nice vocal performance from Ms. Perez. "Rhythm Love Reprise" is the third new track and it plants a dubbed out groove on your ears. "Global Village (instrumental)" found on this re-release was originally included on Nickodemus' debut 12" single entitled "Give The Drummer Some".
Just as Nickodemus' musical career has gone from strength to strength, so does this album. The tracks are in a slightly different order from the original, and as mentioned there are some impressive new ones.
There are few albums out right now that are more worth your hard earned dollars than this one. The rhythms and melodies are distinct and the slow grooves throughout just can't be turned away. If your body and head can't move to this, get em checked. Endangered Species is just solid.
