Six Degrees has positioned their latest compilation entitled "Eden: Global Chill" as the "'deeper' end of music from around the world" and in comparison to the beat-driven nature of compilation series like Buddha Bar or Cafe Del Mar, this one is quite refreshing. While not without its share of groove, there is a softer, more genuine sound to Eden than many other compilations.

As a collection of songs with strong "world" influences, Eden doesn't go wrong, from the very Dead Can Dance styled opener by Niyaz called "In The Shadow of Life", to the eastern dream-pop of Karsh Kale's "Beautiful", the cosmopolitan groove of Thievery Corporation's mix work on Bombay Dub Orchestra's "Feel", and its floating, ambient dub closer in the form of Rara Avis' "Medicine (deep mix)". There are too many good songs to mention all of them.
Although it delivers an expected interpretation of "world" music, wherein the "world" influences don't stray far from the North African and South Asian regions, the songs don't venture into the sparkly upper atmosphere of new age sounds either. Six Degrees got it right with Eden, it's an excellent collection of songs from a number of very talented artists that comes from a very genuine place in the labels heart.
