Water Music's "Breakfast Club London" was compiled by label head Brad Pressman as part of the imprints "destination series". It is an attempt to capture the sound and style of the city, which is credited by many as the birthplace of "chill" music. While some geography-centric compilations draw exclusively from artists in that area, this one recognizes London's worldly metropolitan ways and pulls talent from all over the world.

Opening with a song that's undoubtedly reached classic status among afficionados of the lounge sound is "London In The Rain" by France's Variety Lab. Although released back in 2003, this cut is still going strong. Other contributors include Washington's (USA) Mohan, Los Angeles based Siete, New York City's Mudville, and many others like De-Phazz, Baby Mammoth, Lazy (former Supreme Beings of Leisure), Mooli, and Futuremind.
The mix of sounds is primarily influenced by the vibes and swanky rhythms of 50's lounge, but includes a fair measure of mellow breaks, and triphop, along with a touch of dub and some laidback, broken soul style thanks to the Mark de Clive-Lowe mix of Tama Waipara's "Where I Go".
Breakfast Club London plays its profile low, bare of anything audacious or ostentatious, assuming its comfortably mellow role as an unassuming and nicely varied collection of songs well suited as a fashionable backdrop to a night of lounging around with friends. But if it were anything else, they wouldn't have captured the English spirit of decency now would they?
