Wall Of Soul Spyritual are a Finnish duo who weave together a unique style of soulful, ambient jazz with disarmingly sultry vocals, bubbly but melancholy keys, and perfectly measured (and very subtle) ethnic influences from near Eastern to Brazilian. Throughout the 14 tracks that make up their debut album Wall Of Soul, Spyritual show a deep love of brushed jazz percussion and horns that step brightly over a wash of abstract ambient sounds comprised of lush pads and disjointedly looped acoustic and keyed sounds.

You may find Spyritual's Wall Of Soul takes you back to the early days of triphop, with its longing melodies and melancholy beats. It was a time when the strength of the music relied on complex harmonies, mellow breakbeats under soulful vocals and emotive orchestral and ambient strings. Despite the triphop reference, you'll find Spyritual's sound is just too fresh and too complex to consider it an echo of old school triphop.

The nice modern twist in their sound is a mature command of jazz instrumentation and cleanly layered sounds. Both lovers of vocals and instrumental songs sould be happy with Spyritual's effort, that offers just enough breathing room between vocal tracks to bring you out of and put you back into the groove-laden hypnosis of their instrumental tracks.

The more you listen, the more your love will grow.
