Versioni Particlari 2 is a collection of remixes taken from four singles that followed the 2005 release of The Dining Rooms' "Experiments In Ambient Soul". In addition to compiling the single mixes, you'll find two new tracks; "White Riot" an uptempo homage of sorts to The Clash, and a nice double bass ballad called "Ocean". In a word: nice!
Track Listing:
Afrolicious (Boozoo Bajou remix)
Ocean (original mix)
No Problem (7 Samurai vocal mix)
Experiments In Ambient Soul (Koom.h rework)
Destination Moon (Parov Stelar remix)
The World She Made (Yam Who? rework)
White Riot
Thin Ice (Paolo Fedreghini and Marco Bianchi remix)
Milano Calibro 9 (Gecko Turner remix)
Diamonds & Comforts (Double Beat remix)
Afrolicious (Carmel remix)
Milano Calibro 9 (Madrid de los Austrias mix)
Forever's Not (The Incognito Traveller remix)
From Boozoo Bajou's spaghetti western dub interpretation of "Afrolicious", to the crazy nice jazz breaks of 7 Samurai's rework of "No Problem", and Koom.h's Spanish horn infected, mid-tempo 4/4 take on "Experiments In Ambient Soul", on to Yam Who?'s funky house beats and synths in "The World She Made", Double Beat's head-on hip-hop-house mix of "Diamonds & Comforts", or Madrid de los Austrias funky-town housed out version of "Milano Calibro 9", this album continues to surprise.
As with Experiments In Ambient Soul, your mind has to be open to enjoying the possibilities at hand when skilled musicians and producers mash soul, house, jazz, funk, Latin and dub. There are a few misses among these mixes but when it comes right down to it, Versioni Particolari 2 is a great collection I won't hesitate recommending to anyone looking up progressive soul jazz sounds.
