What Becomes Of Us? Comments (1) ... Anyone who's watched the forensic crime series CSI knows they watch it almost as much for the neatly packaged plotlines as the music. The show has a solid history of using great music to highlight scenes and Cinephile's "What Becomes Of Us?" was used to do just that. Hats off to the CSI music crew for recognizing a great song when they heard it.
Track Listing:
  1. What Becomes Of Us? (nesting dolls remix)
  2. What Becomes Of Us? (concrete orange mix)
  3. Angel/End Scene

"What Becomes Of Us?" unfolds slowly, floating on simple melodies and instrumentation (bass guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, strings), a delicate percussive rhythm framed by subtle tabla work, and an unforgettable vocal chorus. You'll naturally reach toward triphop as a means of categorizing Cinephile's sound. It's hard to avoid it when you mix slow, head nodding beats with melancholy female vocals, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it in my opinion.

With the Concrete Orange mix of the song (actually produced by Kenny Inglis himself), the beats are a little heavier, supported by scratchier synths, as the whole thing comes to a nice climax with some Kidda-styled squelchy synth work. More than anything, the endearing beauty of the track remains the strongest element.

This 3-track single closes with an ethereal, melancholy, nearly instrumental piece called "Angel (end scene)". If you've been holding out on picking up some new sugared beats, listen up!
