Rolling

Rolling Rolling is a very impressive dub record. Dub Champions have crafted their sound using guitar as the primary lead without sounding like a jam band or instrumental rock. They understand that dub comes from reverb and the infinite ways to twist and tweak it, and rather than rehashing old dub, the Dub Champions push their sound forward with modern electronics and mixing the CD as if it were a live show, giving room for slow movements, big builds and everything in between.

"Shogun Warriors" makes good use of a broken-beat drum pattern that keeps the song driving along. "Heavy Dub" harks back to dubs early sound with the piano stabs, but the guitar work plays more like frisky Tosca than Lee Perry. "Castillo De Agua" has a great latin-vibe while still keeping with the dub theme. "Big Bamboo" has a nice rolling drum track that should get people moving around and the vocal sample is a fantastic touch as well.

So yes, I think Rolling is well worth picking up and taking home. As a picky dub critic I am always happy with a few great cuts on a release and Rolling has far more than the usual few. And if you want to know, "Kingston Sirto" is my favorite track with it’s spaghetti western and melodica riffs.
