Comments (1) ... Funky, delicious grooves. Period. On this 6-cut vinyl EP, Jugoe (aka Jude Goergen) rocks the (discerning) dance floor with the grace of a puma, laying Latin and dub rhythms under all kinds of funk, while smoothing it all over with lush breaks and broken beats. Compared to his earlier single "Nightfumblings + Kinpin", released in February of 2003 on Bastard Jazz, Jugoe's sound on The Rustbelt EP is more latin influenced, has a lighter deep house vibe and more prominent breaks. To paraphrase in Jugoe's own unadulterated eloquence, "Dig it fool".

"Ohio City" and "Devil Woman" definitely own this cut of wax.
"Ohio City" mixes dub vibes, deep bass lines, and old school hip-hop breaks with funky jazz flute, Latin horns and a tango rhythm. It sounds impossible, but the combination works so well it's gauranteed to bug out your groove.
"Gooseme (Nickodemus & Zeb mix)" is a dubby piece full of lingering echoes, cut-up vocals, drifting guitar, and slow jazz horns over laid back, Latin-styled broken beats that are light on bass kick.
"Devil Woman" drops an amazing vocal loop that just oozes with vintage 60s Americana cool... "Devil woman, let go of me, devil woman, let me be, I wanna go home". Cutting up acoustic guitar and dense, bassy breaks over a deep synth bass line, you really can't ask for more. If you can't feel this one, my friend, you need to take a moment, reflect, and figure out where it all went wrong.
With "90 West" get ready for a hint of old school, b-boy style with a deep house twist and a touch of 70's bass and cut-up guitar funk. Along with the original, you'll find two mixes of "90 West"; BeatPhreak (Jack to Phono Records) take the jazzy, broken beat road to "90 West" with nu jazzy breaks, a slap bass style and funky, live jazz keys over smooth synth pads. Very nice. The "Detour Beats" mix meets the original and BeatPhreak versions somewhere near the middle, but then takes a left with a deeper, deep house feel and an ultra-funky synth solo. Again, nice work.
The Rustbelt EP is just done right. In no uncertain terms... you need this.
This is pure Genuis!!
Man, Jugoe is holding down the flavorful beats and cool rhythms!!
