DC-based Rhythm & Culture Recordings is set to release their label compilation, The Sound of Rhythm & Culture, on September 7th, 2010. Sometimes, very rarely, a label manages to encompass a city's ehtos and vibe in a way that only a locally brewed record label can. With this compilation, they offer a rare opportunity to get an insider's glance at the sounds and culture of Washington, DC, showcasing its organic and eclectic music scene. Hailing from the vibrant and diverse Washington, DC electronic scene, this artist owned-and-run label was created by Farid Nouri, resident DJ and one of the founders of Eighteenth Street Lounge and Red, and Thomas Blondet, a DC staple of world class deejaying. Farid explains "We put together an album that can be enjoyed while driving down DC's Rock Creek Park or dancing into the late morning hours. Each track focuses on a particular sub-amalgamation of cultures, while holding true to Rhythm & Culture's goal: producing music that can be played thought the speakers of a club, or enjoyed in various other settings." Rhythm & Culture have made Thomas Blondet's seamless collage of Latin rhythms, Spanish horns, reggae vocalisations, and funky beats called "Havana 2am" a free download here on Properly Chilled. Enjoy!
