Mophono's Halftone Society (Website)
Sinicism (Natural Self Remix)
Bastard Jazz

Rough breaks! That's the foundation of the sound for Mophono's Halftone Society on the freshly released, The Sinicism EP. Mophono, also known as DJ Centipede, hails from San Francisco, though the often easily observed influence of the city is nowhere to be heard here. On these 5 tracks you'll hear a sound that takes you back to some classic break beats, but outlines them in experimental electronics, big horns and modern production.

Influences from all over the place, including Serge Gainsbourg pop out in this one. For Tru Thoughts fans this is a must-have and it's not just because Natural Self delivered an incredible remix of "Sinicism" either. I mean, it doesn't hurt in that regard, but I'm talking about all these songs. It's almost surprising the label behind it isn't Tru Thoughts.

At times you'll listen to this ep as an exercise in breakbeats, but other times, you'll just grin and nod your head. In the right room, you'll be up on your feet. This is a classic plate of Bastard Jazz.
